Basalt's Competitive Journal

March 29, 2026

Since I can't sleep I was reading this thread and decided to write some of my own thoughts on it:

I like how Tonic outlines the "three pillars" of competitive goals, and it's so true that low-level teams often have no clue what it is they want. "I want to get to mid-level" is one thing, but that's not something that happens overnight. I know when we started (and even now) we still have that as our goal but I do enjoy that we've come up with individual goals and objectives since then

Obviously all three pillars are important to me, but I think community and competition are the two most important to me. I like the community we have in this server, and the community on bluesky and even on tentakeel outpost. Competition just goes along with that: I like our scrim partners, I like our rivals, and I definitely want to keep fostering that and start getting our names out there more as we continue to grow as a team.

Improvement is something that I feel just comes with the top two, so while I do have a goal of getting better, that's something that happens so slowly over the course of months that I don't feel like it's super important to focus on
